Whose to blame?

After a horrid road trip, it is clear the Giants are not a playoff caliber team. It begs the question, whose to blame?

Sabean's ass didn't know what he was doing. Alfonzo, Alou, Feliz--all overpaid. they should can his ass.

the blame is 2-fold

1. sabean.. didnt learn his lesson from last yr about signing over the hill grizzled vets.. what did he do. go out and get morris and finley.. look at what alfonzo did.. giants could have gotten that production from finley, morris from minor leaguers

2. alou.. krueger was right, felipe is players manager who lost control last yr. he needed to be canned then. he was asleep most of the year.

nexgt yr the blood letting must begin.. all vets not named viz. over 30. try and go the fla marlins route with young players.. there is no cabrera.. but giants young pitching should be at least as good as fla

just cut the cord on the VETS NOW

Sabean's Fault for building this team. Alou's fault for having absolutely no ounce of passion with one foot in a fishing boat.

Kill off the old farts. Keep Vizquel. Keep Bonds for another year at lower pay. And the most important thing for the Giants to do...

sign SORIANO!

Bonds will retire at the end of 2007 season and can you imagine the Giants without a big star player?!

Soriano and Carlos Lee. Imagine if we signed both!

same old story the last 3 years...lets get a few things straight.

1.please stop with the soriano and carlos lee remarks everyone. Sabean hasnt signed a true upper tier free agent his entire tenure with the giants in the off season.

2.management is happy with sabean...despite a raft of horrible signings at top dollar>>>blownitez, morris, alfonzo, etc. and terrible trades (liriano/bonser/nathan) they are sticking with him another year. Dont expect him to change his stripes.

3.people think there will be a major overhaul...with sabean around dont bet on it...i assume they will resign barry, moises, ray ray, and possibly feliz/hleenbrand

4. we will have to eat he contracts of worrell, blownitez, and mattheney (done in by concussion but guaranteed contract) and the buyout on finley is 3 mill unless we want to pay his 8 mill next year....

this amonuts to a significant amount of dead money, and with barry resigned with a couple of second tier free agents signed in the winter will give the brass all they need with the allstar game to stand pat another year...believe it...and with our pathetic minor league system we will look remarkably similar to the teams of 2004,2005, and 2006.

4.felipe has been a joke the last 2 years, i am still not convinced they will finally let him go...but he's lost tough with the game and lost what little control he had in the dugout/clubhouse.

5.our so-called "promising" young pitchers are a joke save for cain:

lowry-2 losing seasons in a row, nuff said
sanchez-not ready for primetime
munter/taschner-batting practice pitchers.
correia/hennessey-ok, but average at best

6.winn should have never been given the huge contract based on a few good months last year...now he is nothing more than marvin bernard with a little more pop.

7.as long as mcgowan runs the show and sabean continues to show poor judgement when evaluating talent this team will never get back into the playoffs...0 for san francisco and counting.

I think you've got some completely valid points. Truth is we are going to be eating contracts next year--Worrell, Benitez, Matheny..absolutely. You forget to mention though that we'll also be taking on Bonds' 3 million a year that we owe him (extended part of his contract). What's funny is whether he plays or not, we'll be paying him more than people we got on the field.

It is becoming very clear that signing Edgardo Alfonzo, Armando Benitez and Randy Wynn were the three big mistakes by Sabean the past few years. The difference between the Giants and many other playoff teams is they don't have the money to make up for it. This is where the true value of the Billy Beane's comes into play.

I tip my cap to Oakland...they simply got the job done this year.

Age is to blame. What do you expect from a group of guys that make father time look young. Out fielders that can't run or throw (Hello Barry) infielders with stone hands (Hello Ray) and a manager that is lucky if he stays awake past the 5th inning. The only bright spots on this club are the kids on the pitching staff and the ones they brought up late in the year. Time for a complete overhaul of this team. If you want to win you will have to pay the price now. Play the kids, I for one don't care about personal records that are going to be tainted anyway (Hello Barry) I'm a Giants fan, I want the team to do well. Give me a younger manager, either Rigetti or Brenly a bunch of kids and a couple of years. Look at Detroit this year and Oakland for the past few years. Let Barry go, trade Schmidt and Durham for prospects and lets get back to the idea of the GIANTS being important not the indivual players.
